What Is Your Truth?

Recently I was struggling with my business. It wasn’t a question of money, irate clients, back-logged product, or a server crash. It wasn’t angry contractors, bossy managers, or accounts payables not paid.

It was about what I was saying.

These times we live in gives us endless possibilities to “say” what we want. We have email, SMS, voice mail, faxes, cell phones, satellite phones, landlines, video conferencing, old fashioned snail mail, and, oh yeah, talking face to face.

There’s no shortage of ways to communicate.

But all those technologies are rendered useless when you don’t know what it is you want to say.

My struggles began when I “forgot” who I was, how Soul Acrobats started. I began with a simple idea a few years ago with 4 friends about sharing inspiration in movement (acrobatics) and conveying that energy via film, photography, and workshops.

Then, I got fancy. My head (ie. the ego) put in its two cents.

I should be a famous speaker, like Tony Robbins. Or an Internet marketer, like Alex Mandossian. Or create a video production company. I should try this marketing technique, then that one. It should sound like this, with that color theme, and this approach.

It didn’t work, not for me.

The struggle I had was feeling like I wasn’t saying what I wanted to say. I began to say things that I thought clients would like to hear, instead of saying things that I wanted to say.

But wait! That’s not good marketing sense, not good for selling your products!

Maybe yes, maybe no. But I am happier.

Recently another Soul Acrobat, Kendall, casually mentioned that Soul Acrobats is not only fitness for the body, but fitness for the soul. Isn’t it funny how someone else can say exactly what you want to say?

His simple sentence brought me back to why Soul Acrobats exists and what service we are in.

Inspire fitness and health for your body and soul. Simple!

I realized that some of the struggles I was having were related to not knowing exactly HOW to say what I wanted to say.

In my heart I knew. I knew what my truth was and I’ve always known.

But my mouth could not find the right words. It took somebody else to say it for me.

It takes a lot of courage to say what’s in your heart. When someone says, I don’t know what my truth is, he is saying that he doesn’t know HOW to say what’s already in his heart. There’s a difference.

Expressing the messages of your heart starts with listening. Here is the Fitness for Your Soul part – take walks, meditate, listen to music, exercise – whatever it takes to hear the subtle voice of your heart over din of the modern world.

Then, if you still don’t know how to say it, begin asking friends and family around you. They might know.

If they don’t, keep asking. The message will become clear with time, like bread baking in the oven. When it’s done, it’s done, but don’t try to extract the message too soon. It’ll be half baked and gooey.

Have fun, speaking your truth.*
